OSM is a distributed data acquisition and control system which is comprised of a main controller and one or more satellite interface modules. The components communicate over a dedicated Fast Ethernet
The Onboard Signature Manager (OSM) is the control system for the Sea Water Injection (SWI) and Active Hull Cooling (AHC) systems. OSM is a turn-key wall mounted unit with local user operation via flat screen graphical display.
OSM interfaces the following main systems:
- The Active Hull Cooling (AHC) water flow control components;
- The ambient environment sensors;
- The ship machinery control system;
- The network of ship skin surface temperature sensors; and
- The Sea Water Injection (SWI) water flow control components.
OSM performs the following main functions:
- Calculates the optimal ship skin temperature in order to minimize the susceptibility of the ship to IR guided missiles under current operating conditions;
- Automatically controls the flow of water to the ship skin to achieve the optimal skin temperature;
- Automatically controls the flow of water to SWI systems as a function of engine operating state;
- Ensures that water is distributed intelligently over the ship surface without exceeding pumping capacity;
- Graphically displays the status of the SWI and AHC systems;
- Maintains a log of all sensor and control data.
OSM can be software upgraded to perform the following functions:
- Calculate and display the total ship IR signature from all view angles around the ship for current operating conditions;
- Calculate and display an IR image of the ship and its background from an operator configured view azimuth and range; and
- Calculate and display the lock-on range to an IR guided missile for all azimuth angles around the ship for current operating conditions.
